The Secretary General of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (C. C . C . S ) , Reverend Dr. Iutisone Salevao, has denied reports that money issues have delayed the renovation work being done to the John Williams Building.“Money is not a problem for the church,” Rev. Salevao told the Samoa Observer yesterday.“The church has money but that money needs to be properly managed for such projects.”Rev. Salevao added that the project is still being carried out at the price upon which the Church’s conference agreed to which is about $3million.The Secretary General was contacted for a comment after several members of the church raised questions about the state of the project, which started last year.The renovation should have been completed in November 2014.Some church members claimed that the project has cost the church far above what it had initially budgeted for and this was causing the delay.Not so, said Rev. Iutisone, who explained that the project has faced a number of setbacks because some of the materials are being ordered from far away places like Germany and Singapore.The Secretary General said the fault falls on the church.“The principle is that the church is responsible for supplying the materials,” said Rev. Salevao.He pointed out that the contractor – South Pacific Cladding - is responsible for labour and security.“The delay was caused by the supply of alucobond cladding from Germany and Singapore that we are waiting for. It is the top quality cladding in the world.”According to Rev. Salevao, the materials are in New Zealand and it should arrive in Samoa next week.He added that the rainy season has also had an impact. “I don’t allow the boys to do work climbing the building when it rains,” he said.“The church will feel responsible if someone falls and gets injured or dies. So I don’t allow them to do that kind of work when it rains.When the weather is bad, they do work inside the building.”During the church’s annual general assembly last year, it approved a $2.5million for the renovation.
