Samoa police launch investigation into gun video

Savaii, SAMOA — Police in Samoa looking into ongoing brawls between village youth have now launched an investigation into cybercrime offences after the posting of a video of a man being questioned at gunpoint.

Police have sent personnel from Apia to Savaii after a brawl between Salelologa and Salelavalu village youth and the destruction of property at Salelologa market.

A police spokesperson said they were also looking into a new video posted on Facebook showing a young man from Salelologa being questioned by youths of Salelavalu with a gun pointing at his face.

The media officer said the video from yesterday's rampage at the market which was posted on social media is also being investigated.

He said police have asked the village council for their support in handing over the suspects.

The situation appeared to have calmed yesterday after the village of Salelologa presented a traditional apology or ifoga.

Police have made no arrests so far.
