Apia, SAMOA — Police are investigating how a woman with a criminal record ended up working as a police officer in the Ministry of Police.

The woman is a former bank teller where she stole a substantial amount of money from her employer.

After her recruitment several months ago, she was placed under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that deals with investigating complaints.

Sources told Talamua that when several police officers started talking about the woman’s record, management quickly stepped in and forced the woman to resign without a proper investigation as to how she got the job and whose decision was it to recruit her.

When asked about the investigation, Police Commissioner Fuiavailiili Egon Keil said it was a personnel matter dealt with internally, but from his perspective as the Police Commissioner, he cannot stand any misconduct especially serious ones.

Sources said that several police officers are calling out for justice especially on the top people who they suspect were involved in recruiting the woman.
