A 1st: US Army Reserve “Best Warrior Competition” in American Samoa

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The seven Army Reservists posed for a photo yesterday, the final day of the six-day US Army Reserve “Best Warrior” Competition, held in American Samoa for the first time.

Two local reservists and five from Hawai’i, Guam and Alaska made up the competitors, who are [l-r standing) Sgt. Embery, Sgt. Hunt, Spc. Maluafou, Sgt. Mortenson Sgt. Sapla and Spc. Stanleyfelt; and kneeling is PFC. Ulimasao.

The competitors were cheered on, encouraged and supported by US Army Reserve officials on island as well as from off island.

To be considered for the “Best Warrior” Competition, the elite competitors test their knowledge, skills and abilities by conquering urban warfare simulations, demonstrating critical thinking, formal board interviews, physical fitness challenges, written exams, and warrior tasks and battle drills relevant to today’s operating environment, according to the US Army.
