Local Pacific Warriors join worldwide movement

American Samoa joined 14 other Pacific Islands on Saturday to rekindle the Warrior Spirit \because climate change is real.\ They proclaimed, \We are Pacific Island Warriors and together we will tackle climate change!\American Samoa 350 Environmental Club hosted the Pacific Warriors Day of Action yesterday at Utulei Beach Park. Over 200 young people participated including Boy Scouts, JROTC units, volleyball teams and students from Fagaitua, Samoana, Tafuna and Leone High Schools.The day opened with a volleyball tournament and a presentation from ASCC's Community Natural Resources associate director, Aufa’i Apulu Ropeti Areta of 100 trees to the Boy Scouts. Boy Scout troops will be planting in coastal areas. Art students created posters and signs depicting ways to stem global warming while dance groups created warrior routines fending off climate change.Before lunch, Lt. Gov. Lemanu Peleti Sialega Mauga and Mrs Mauga lent their support to the effort as well as DOE director, Dr. Salu Hunkin-Finau; deputy director of Dept. of Youth & Women's Affairs, Galu Satele and special guest, swimmer and environmentalist Bruckner Chase.
