Rotarians hear about Hope Dialysis care at Friday meeting

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Pago Pago Rotary Club hosted  Dr Jean Letarte (seated left) and Chris Fisher (speaking), directors of Hope Dialysis, American Samoa's first Medicare certified private medical clinic in the territory, as guest speakers at their regular Friday meeting, June 10.

Mr. Fisher shared the development history of the clinic, including the fact that Hope is 100% locally owned by private sector investors. He explained the challenges of receiving Medicare certification. Every staff member at Hope Dialysis, such as certified doctor, social worker, nutritionist and registered nurse all meet the medicare requirements for professional medical staff.

Fisher emphasized that certified personnel are the key factors in providing excellent health care and patient education.

Dr.Letarte fielded questions from the audience. Of prime concern from the Rotary membership were the beginning signs of kidney disease. Dr. LeTarte advised that frequent urination is often a sign of kidney function failure. He suggested that every person should be checked for kidney disease at the clinic.
