Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — While American Samoa remains one of the safest places in the world with no community spread of COVID — so far 10 positive imported COVID cases have been reported – five of which have previously been contained through isolation and are no longer infectious and the other five, which are currently undergoing isolation — according to a press statement from the COVID-19 Task Force.

As travel increases during the holiday season and a new variant called SARS-CoV-2 Omicron is worrying health officials, the push for a higher vaccination coverage and the protections provided by it – is all the more necessary.

The territory’s vaccination rate is at 66.8% for the fully vaccinated and the COVID Task Force with the support from the private sector is making a final big push in order to reach 90% or more before the end of the year.
