Male arrested for PPD says “he doesn’t know why he was doing it”

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On Saturday, May 11, 2024, a police commander reported someone making unreasonable noises near Fagatogo Central Police Station (CPS).

The defendant was later apprehended and charged with:

Count 1: Public Peace Disturbance — a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for six months, a fine of $500, or both; and,

Count 2: Prohibited Place of Consumption — a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for six months, a fine of $50, or both.

According to the affidavit, at around 9:23 a.m, a watch commander for DPS reported that as he was smoking a cigarette outside their office in Fagatogo, when he heard someone yelling.

Tony Sione (suspect) was allegedly making loud noises and yelling profanities at the bus stop next to the pavilion located on the malae  in Fagatogo village.

Police officers responded and upon arrival at the scene observed the suspect sitting at the bus stop holding a can of beer. The defendant, four more beer cans inside a plastic bag next to him.

The defendant was apprehended and transported him to the CPS for further investigation.

The defendant confessed that he was the one making loud noises at the bus stop and yelling profanities but said “he doesn’t know why he was doing it.”

Sione also admitted that he had been drinking since Friday, May 10th until the day of the incident, May 11th.

The defendant was processed and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility to await the next available sitting of the District Court.

The defendant is identified as a 28 year-old U.S National.

The affidavit did not state any bail amount set for the defendant.
