Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In response to the usual busy travel season, Hawaiian Airlines is adding a dozen extra flights for the summer.

The Honolulu-based carrier currently operates two weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays — arrival and departure at night — out of Pago Pago.

Hawaiian spokesman Alex Da Silva confirmed to Samoa News yesterday that the airline has already added flights for American Samoa during the summer time, start June 11th and ending Aug. 27th. And these flights are already on sale.

There will be a total of 12 flights — operating on Tuesdays — during the summer and the flights will arrive and depart the same time as the current flights.

July is expected to be extra busy with travelers heading to Samoa from the US for the 2019 Pacific Games.

In August, delegates from the US will travel here and then to Samoa for church conferences including the Methodist Church, which has moved its annual conference in Apia July- August because the church’s compound at Piula in Samoa is housing athletes for the Pacific Games.

Meanwhile, Hawaiian launched last Thursday the first direct flights between Honolulu and Boston’s Logan International Airport.

At 5,095 miles, this Hawaiian air route “will become the longest regularly scheduled interstate route in U.S. history,” the airline said. Flights will operate four times a week between Honolulu and Boston.
