American Samoa’s first responders get COVID vaccine

First responders wait to get their vaccines.

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — First responders, healthcare workers and critical essential employees last week waited at the DoH Tafuna Community Health Center to get their Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

According to DoH once the person gets the shot, he/ she is monitored by a DoH physician any side-effects for 30 minutes. The person is then given the COVID-19 immunization card, which is stamped and the individual leaves the clinic.

As of last week, DoH said there were no severe allergic reactions at the Community Health Center.

Vaccinations for first responders, healthcare workers and critically essential employees were not scheduled for Christmas Eve, but resumed the next day and ran through Wednesday this week between 2p.m. and 6p.m based on the list already with DoH, which also says that it will continue to update it’s Facebook page for any change in vaccination dates.

DoH continues to urge the public who have questions about the vaccine to please call call 219 or 684-633-5871 or email [vaccine@doh.as].

Healthcare workers and first responders at LBJ Medical Center are being vaccinated at the hospital.

(Unconfirmed rumors say many first responders are not showing up to get the COVID vaccine shot, and as a result some members of the public have been given the opportunity to be vaccinated.)
