American Samoa awarded $1 million+ for children’s immunization

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is happy to welcome a health care grant of over $1.1 million for the American Samoa Department of Health, dedicated to the immunization and vaccines effort for children.

This grant of $1,107,823 is discretionary funding from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), directed through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD).

 “Thank you most especially to Ruth Te’o for her work on this important program, as this notice from CDC/NCIRD is wonderful news,” said Amata. “Congratulations to Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga, Lt. Governor Talauega E.V. Ale, Director Motusa T. Nua, and our many health care professionals as they work to help our community be safe and healthy!”

The HHS is led by Secretary Xavier Becarra, the CDC Director is Dr. Rochelle Walensky, and NCIRD Director is Dr. Nancy Messonnier.
