Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomes a federal grant of $2,327,753 from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the American Samoa Department of Health. The Pacific Basin Grant is offered under the Health Center Cluster Program of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

“This grant from the HRSA is helpful as our Territory’s health professionals work to serve the medical needs of the people of American Samoa,” said Aumua Amata. “Health services are one of the most important areas for federal funds to make a difference.”

“Thank you particularly to Director Motusa Nua and Elizabeth Ponausuia for their efforts in obtaining these funds, continued Congresswoman Amata. “I also appreciate HHS Secretary Alex Azar and HRSA Administrator George Sigounas for their role in preserving the availability of health services.”

HRSA provides health care and support to geographically isolated populations, such as American Samoa. The agency works to improve health care delivery in these areas, and to those who could be economically or medically vulnerable. Nearly 90 percent of HRSA’s budget is awarded through grants and cooperative agreements.
