Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Monday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata held a town hall meeting at Aumoeualogo Guest House in Aoa village to discuss issues, economic efforts, recent legislation, events in Washington, and federal services for constituents.

“Thank you to Aoa village,” said Aumua Amata. “I had the opportunity to update constituents on the possibility of another round of $1,200 economic relief checks, and the status of ongoing federal funding for our islands.”

Congresswoman Amata enjoys holding these town hall meetings throughout American Samoa to speak face-to-face, hear concerns directly, and update constituents on work being done, events in Washington, and how those outcomes could affect American Samoa.

“The House and Senate economic relief bills are different, but in areas that matter here in American Samoa, both want to provide personal economic relief again, both want to extend some Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), both want to extend the PPP loans, both would provide more health care and local government grants,” continued Amata.

“The federal government has provided short term PUA unemployment help, and another round is likely, although the final amount might change,” Amata said. “I advise anyone applying for unemployment to fill out every line and leave nothing blank, so it can’t be incomplete, and if you need it, look for someone to help show you how to finish filling it out. Congress intends that assistance to go to people without jobs during this time.”

Topics traditionally discussed at these Town Halls include Veterans and health care issues, fishing policies, government funding and how these funds are spent, and any constituent concerns. Congresswoman Amata reports back on pending legislation and funding.

“I always appreciate everyone who comes out, whether you just want to listen or you have something you want to say,” said Congresswoman Amata. “I am busy joining Committee hearings regularly on weekdays via the internet, usually very early because of the time difference. I’m keeping up with the major appropriations in Washington right now, and will keep you informed.”
