ASSA Holiday Fast Pitch League 2011 begins

The American Samoa Softball Association Holiday Fast Pitch League 2011 got underway this past Saturday morning with an opening ceremony at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field in Tafuna, with eight teams, four in the Men’s division and four in the Women’s division.

The Women’s division have the teams of, Alanoa, Kip McGrath War-Cats, Leone Angels and the American Samoa Baseball Association (ASBA). The Men’s division boasts teams of Leone Angels, American Samoa Baseball Association (ASBA), Alanoa and the Spartans.

In the opening ceremony on Saturday, the Director the the Department of Parks and Recreation Samana Semo Ve’ave’a said, “With the next Pacific Games, there will be fast pitch softball and with this fast pitch softball league; it will help train our National Team in preparing them for the games, as we are in partnership with the American Samoa Softball Association to try and get this fast pitch league going.”

President of the American Samoa Softball Association and House Representative Larry Sanitoa said, “With the support of the government and the Department of Parks and Recreation, they have been fantastic in being great partners.”

In today’s action, it will have ASBA versus Alanoa in the Men’s division and tomorrow Dec. 20, the Women’s division will see the Kip McGrath War-Cats going against the Leone Angels.

On Wednesday December 21, the Spartans will face off with the Leone Angels in the Men’s division; while on Thursday December 22 in the Women’s division, ASBA will be battling it out with the team of Alanoa.

On Friday December 23, the men will have the the teams of the Leone Angels and Alanoa playing one another.

Games that are played Monday through Friday, have a starting time of 4:30 p.m. and all will be at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field. Stay tuned to Samoa News for the starting times of the games that are scheduled for Saturday.
