It’s going on two months and the Attorney General’s office has yet to act on the police report, wherein two Detectives were involved in damaging a night club in Pago Pago.

The two Detectives — Johnny Paselio and Geoffrey Tagaloa — were identified by Police Commissioner William Haleck last month, when he stated that the hammer will fall where it needs to fall.

Two months ago Haleck told Samoa News that it’s unclear why the off duty officers were not arrested following the incident, but assured that he will get to the bottom of this matter and placed the detectives on desk duty. A week after the incident, Paselio was assigned as a lead investigator and the Commissioner said, “It’s his expertise in the Vice and Narcotics field that we’ve had to reach out to him (Paselio) to be the lead investigator in a drug case where a female was arrested for drug possession.

The Commissioner told Samoa News that the police report has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office. Samoa News have been receiving calls from police officers voicing their disappointment with how this is being handled by DPS and the AG’s office.

A police officer who was recently jailed for 90 days after he was found guilty of assault noted that favoritism played a role in how this matter was handled and it’s been two months, yet no disciplinary action nor criminal action has been taken against the off duty detectives. He expressed displeasure saying that it’s unfair treatment and the detectives should be held accountable to their actions.

Samoa News sent queries to Acting Attorney General Mitzie Jessop as to why the AG’s office has not acted on this matter. She responded that they are reviewing the police report and as it is still pending, she cannot comment on it.

Samoa News understands that the club owner has withdrawn her complaint filed against the two detectives, as the policemen involved have already paid for the window that was damaged. However according to other disgruntled police officers despite the complaint being withdrawn the police officers allegedly damaged the property and there was a firearm that was also involved.

Soon after the incident occurred, Samoa News received calls and emails from witnesses who were at the scene saying that one of the police officers involved had pulled a firearm out of the police vehicle which the detectives had driven to the nightclub, which was parked across the street from the club.

The police vehicle in question is assigned to the Vice and Narcotics Unit and is driven by Paselio to and from work. Witnesses told Samoa News that it was past closing time at the club, when the bouncer asked the off duty detectives to leave, as the club was closed. It’s alleged that one of the men instead, punched the bouncer. It’s further alleged that that is when other employees of the club intervened and removed the two officers, escorting them out of the club.

According to witnesses, one of the men threw a beer bottle, shattering one of the windows of the club. The off duty officer then proceeded to his vehicle, pulled out a bat and was walking back to the club when on duty police officers arrived on the scene and the man was taken into the police vehicle. (It is not clear if the man who punched the bouncer is the same one who threw the beer bottle.)
