Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — More than $1.8 million in tax refund checks - covering both local and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) — will be released on Friday, Sept. 13th.

In a brief statement issued Wednesday afternoon, ASG Treasurer, Uelinitone Tonumaipe’a said Friday’s tax refunds are for taxpayers who filed between Apr. 1st and June 12th. And the run covers 1,833 qualified taxpayers.

Of the more than $1.88 million in total refunds set to be released tomorrow, over $1.06 million is for ACTC — which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service — and $814,695 for local.

Tonumaipe’a advises all taxpayers who are expecting tax refunds to check with the Tax Office first, before standing in line at the Treasury Disbursing Office. For questions, contact the ASG Tax Office at 633-4181

The latest tax run comes amid numerous complaints voiced by taxpayers on social media, questioning the status of their tax refund checks, while the governor is proposing salary increases for 12 executive branch directors and several senior staff at the Governor’s Office.

The bulk of the complaints are calling for the Lolo Administration to pay out tax refunds during the current FY 2019, before the start of FY 2020 on Oct. 1, 2019.
