Profanities break the Sunday peace in Tafuna area

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — This past Sunday, the Tafuna Police Substation received a call at 3:28p.m. reporting a disturbance in the neighborhood with someone yelling profanities.

Responding officers said that upon arrival at the scene, they met with the caller and she stated that she heard someone yelling profanities and that’s when she went over to her neighbor’s house and found Gaogao Leaupepe yelling from inside the house at a man identified as the victim.

Officers then interviewed the victim who stated that he was sitting outside when Leaupepe came outside of his house and told him “You wait and see” as Leaupepe’s wife pulled him inside the house while he was yelling profanities. Other residents were disturbed and witnessed what had occurred.

The suspect was apprehended and transported to the TPS for further investigation. When they arrived at the police station, the suspect was Mirandized and waived his rights and offered a verbal statement, where he said he did not do anything to the victim or yell any profanities at him.

Leaupepe’s initial court appearance was  yesterday, June 21, 2023 where he was charged with 2 criminal counts — 1 count of public peace disturbance and one of private peace disturbance. His bond is set at $300.
