Nat'l Weather Service: Increased risk for rockslides and mudslides

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —  Heavy Rain and gusty winds will continue to weaken already saturated and fatigued soil to generate and increased risk of landslides and mudslides across American Samoa this week.

Increased Risks of Mudslides this week; due to: continued periods of locally heavy rainfall continuing to soak already saturated soils, along with gusty winds blowing tall trees and vegetation, loosening already weakened soils.

Be cautious of rapidly rising streams and ponding on the roadways throughout American Samoa early this morning. Otherwise, a Flash Flood Watch continues for the entire territory today along with a Small Craft Advisory.

Winds speeds are forecast to decrease today. The Gale Warning and Wind Advisory has expired. The High Surf Advisory (for northern shorelines) has also expired and is no longer in effect.
