Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A man who is accused of stabbing another man with a small kitchen knife during a fight, was arrested last week and charged with disturbing the public peace.

Douglas Lagolago made his initial appearance before District Court Judge Fiti Sunia last week, and his case is continued until Thursday this week, with the government expected to file  additional charges.

According to court filings, it was 9:03p.m last Wednesday when the police were contacted about a man who was injured during a fight with another man in the Kokoland area. When police arrived at the scene, three males were seen standing behind a house.

One of them was the victim and the other two were the ones who reported the incident.

The victim told police that Lagolago was very intoxicated and was yelling profanities in front of their house and in the village, late at night.

When he asked him to stop, Lagolago challenged him to a fist fight; and he punched Lagolago in the face. The victim claims the defendant kept challenging him to a fight. He said he punched Lagolago again in the face, and this caused him to fall down.

Lagolago then stood up and stabbed the victim in the back with a small kitchen knife before fleeing into the night.

Police officers were able to locate Lagolago at his sister’s home and escorted him to the police station for an interview, before he was booked and confined at the TCF to await his court appearance.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he required stitches to close the wound on his back.

Lagolago is still in custody, unable to post a $500 cash bond.
