Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Lt. Gov. Lemanu Palepoi Sialega led several cabinet members to welcome home Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga, who returned to the territory on Tuesday night’s Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu.

Lemanu greeted the governor next to the aircraft after he deplaned. Also traveling with the governor was the First Lady Cynthia Malala Moliga.

One of the cabinet members who was at the airport told Samoa News yesterday, that the “Governor Lolo looks very good and healthy.”

There was a brief welcoming prayer service at the Airport VIP Lounge upon the governor’s arrival before Lolo headed home to rest.

Samoa News understands that the governor was to spend time yesterday in briefings with Lemanu and senior staff of the Governor’s Office.

“The Governor is in very good spirits and glad to be home,” ASG officials told Samoa News yesterday morning.

In a July 9 memo, released by the Governor’s Office on Tuesday afternoon, Lemanu informed cabinet members that a Prayer Service would be held tomorrow, Friday, at 9a.m. at the CCCAS Fagaalu church, giving thanks for the safe return of the governor.

He called on cabinet members to join in this Prayer Service “so we can collectively thank God through our prayers for His generosity and kindness channeled through doctors, nurses and healthcare providers who had a hand in our Governor’s recovery, renewed vitality, new lease on life and rekindled spirit.”

In another memo, also issued Tuesday afternoon, Lemanu — as acting governor at the time — declared next week Tuesday, July 16 as Manu’a Islands Cession Day, referred to as Manu’a Flag Day, marking 115 years since the island group was ceded to the U.S. and became part of American Samoa.

Because of the holiday, all ASG offices will be closed that day. No information has been released yet on the Manu’a Flag Day program, which is usually held on Ta’u island as a one-day celebration.
