Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — House Representative Manumaua Wayne and Mrs. Lepoi Wilson, in partnership with the Christopher James Foeoletini Ledoux Foundation (The Foeoletini Foundation), are introducing the Brianna Lina Wilson Scholarship Fund.

This is to honor the memory of their daughter Brianna Lina Wilson, according to a press statement yesterday.

“She was a young woman passionate about science, math, art, and engineering.

“We are proud to offer this scholarship to high school students who share Brianna's love for these subjects and are pursuing a college degree in one of these fields. Brianna Lina Wilson's love for animals was evident at a young age, and later she would set a goal to one day become a veterinarian. Brianna was a ray of light who loved poetry.”

One of her heartfelt poems titled "Myself" was published in a book called "May Your Wonder Be Your Map."

Sadly, on July 29, 2022, she passed at seventeen after a hard fight with Cancer.

Manumaua W. Wilson, representing the Ituau District, serves as a board member for the Foeoletini Foundation.

“Her memory lives on through this scholarship. “We aim to inspire the next generation of doctors, scientists, and engineers by supporting students who share their enthusiasm for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) subjects.

“This inaugural year, we will be giving out awards to those who meet the requirements of schools that Brianna once attended, Tafuna High School and Kanana Fou High School."

According to the statement this inaugural year will provide three scholarships worth $4,000 each for applicants who successfully meet all requirements and will attend a U.S. accredited four-year university for a total of $12,000.

“Two scholarships will be awarded to Tafuna High School and one scholarship for Kanana Fou High School.”

For 2-year college applicants who successfully meet the requirements and will be attending a U.S. accredited two year college, will be awarded $2,000 each.

“Students must pursue a degree in a STEAM field.”

The requirements for applicants are that they must live in the District of Ituau, must attend Tafuna High School or Kanana Fou; and must have good academic standing; GPA of 3.5 or higher; also must demonstrate financial need; and should submit a 500 word essay; letter of recommendation and  acceptance letter from accredited US College and University.

The scholarship's committee chairman, Olomua Fiafia Sunia, on behalf of the board, acknowledged Manumaua and family and their stakeholders and partners locally and abroad, as the Foundation finds more innovative ways to keep the youth involved.

“Our organization is committed to providing future scholarships to all high schools.

“Therefore, we encourage donations from individuals and corporations to support this initiative.

“Your contribution can help us make a difference in the lives of talented students who might not have the financial means to pursue a college degree locally and abroad.

“You can donate online at www.foeoletini.org/brianna or make checks payable to The Christopher James Foeoletini Ledoux Foundation.”

“Checks can be dropped off at our main offices on the second floor of the Methodist Bookstore in Fagatogo from 8 AM-1 PM."

Mr. Sunia says together, they can ensure that Brianna's legacy lives on and that future generations can pursue their passion for STEAM subjects.

“Apply online and donate to the Brianna Lina Wilson Memorial Scholarship today.

“The scholarship is funded 100% by private donors and contributions from family members. “The Foeoletini Foundation focuses on providing services and resources to families impacted by substance use disorder, victims of substance abuse, and recovery. “The generous support of our donors is what allows the Foeoletini Foundation to fulfill its mission.
