$1.1 million in tax refunds released
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — ASG Acting Treasurer Levi Reese, in a brief statement Thursday announced that the third batch of tax refunds — more than $1.1 million — is scheduled for release Friday, Apr. 1.
A total of 267 taxpayers who filed Feb. 2, will be getting their refunds —with 31 individuals through direct deposit, 32 by mail, and 204 individuals who don’t have a mailing address on their tax returns will pick up the refund at the Treasury Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building — where social distancing and wearing a face mask is strictly enforced.
Of the total of more than $1.11 million in tax refunds, $308,479 is paid from locally collected funds and $803,326 is from the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service.
If you are expecting a tax refund and did not receive it, call the Tax Office for further information and assistance. “Do not visit the office,” the statement said.
Even before the official announcement came from Reese, word had already spread Thursday morning through the coconut wireless that refund checks would be distributed Friday.
Meanwhile, Treasury provided yesterday data on tax-refund batch two released on. Mar. 22, and this was for those who filed between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
Total for batch 2 was $1.5 million — with $351,885 paid with local funds and more than $1.14 million in ACTC.
