Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — During a special presentation last Friday at the Bluesky Communications branch in Tafuna, Pago Pago Trading Company Ltd. (PPTC), Bluesky Communications and the  American Samoa Government announced their Multi-Cultural event — “We Are One” — for the upcoming Flag Day celebrations next month.

PPTC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President Ella Gurr said it was in the spirit of nurturing good relations with the ethnic communities in our territory, as well as advocating youth development that PPTC, Bluesky and ASG have partnered with the Korean, Chinese and Filipino communities, along with McConnell Dowell to host a Multi-Cultural Fest and Fireworks show.

The all day event will be held at Si’ugaula Beach in Utulei on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2019.

According to Gurr, the event offers “an opportunity for the various ethnic communities to showcase their native handicrafts, foods, plus music and dance. The festivities will be open to the general public as well as tourists from the cruise ships that will be in port that specific day.”

The event is for the entire family and will have live entertainment — performances by the Samoan, Korean, Chinese and Filipino youth — bouncers for the children to enjoy, arts and handicraft displays, plus a multitude of indigenous food menus presented by the various diverse cultural communities in American Samoa.

Other activities include various prize giveaways by the Pago Pago Village Youth and there’s going to be a “cash cube” sponsored by PPTC and Bluesky.

The grand finale culminates with a spectacular 2019 Flag Day Fireworks show at 8pm.

“We are extremely excited to be part of this joint venture. Our main goal is to bring together our communities, to build healthy relationships; plus collaborate with our ethnic communities with inspiring our youth to develop their talents and skills to benefit our economy through entrepreneurship.

“We certainly look forward to hosting the general public as this event will be happening in time for Easter celebrations and our Flag Day events that will take place the following week,” The PPTC CEO noted.
