Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —  A 38-year-old man from Samoa accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl has entered into a plea agreement with the government.

Calvin Aleki, who told the court that he came here to work as a mechanic, was initially charged with rape, sodomy, and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse. But under a plea agreement with the government — accepted by the court — Aleki pled guilty to first-degree sexual abuse. The remaining charges were dismissed.

With his guilty plea, Aleki admits that on the night of June 30, 2018, he touched the breast of a 16-year-old girl, who was his neighbor, for the purpose of gratifying his sexual desires.

Attorneys for both sides agreed that they would recommend a probated sentence, without any additional period of detention.

According to terms of the plea agreement, Aleki entered the victim’s home around 11:23p.m on the night in question, when the girl’s mom was at work, and her father was off island.

Aleki entered the house, walked to the victim’s room, and found the victim sleeping on her bed with her 9-year-old brother. That’s when Aleki touched the victim’s chest and moved down to her thigh.

The victim woke up and saw Aleki standing at the side of her bed. She started screaming and Aleki fled. Around 2:40a.m., the girl’s mother returned home from work, and the victim told her what happened. Police were immediately notified.

Aleki, who is still in custody unable to post a $20,000 surety bond, will be sentenced  Aug. 22nd.
