Man arrested for throwing beer bottles at passing cars — AND a cop van

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On April 27, 2024, a woman contacted Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) to report a male individual throwing rocks at the cars passing by on the main road. One of the vehicles targeted included a police van.

The suspect was later arrested and charged one count of Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for six months, a fine of $500, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $1,000.

According to the affidavit, on April 27, 2024 at about 2:30 a.m, suspect Felise Siasau of Iliili engaged in violent behavior — throwing empty bottles at vehicles passing by on the road and yelling out profanities, along with the Samoan war cry (fa’aumu).

On the same date at about 2:35 a.m, police officers proceeded to the scene with a backup unit to assist. Officers observed a male individual sitting in front of the bus stop outside of the Bowling Sports Bar. Officers detected the smell of alcohol from the male individual.

The man was apprehended and he was transported to the TPS for further investigation.

Officers then proceeded to the Bowling Sports Bar to interview the reporter where they met with a female individual who explained to the officers what happened.

According to the reporter/ witness, she was with another employee sitting outside the Bowling Sports Bar when she saw the man throwing bottles at the vehicles passing by on the main road. Furthermore, she stated that the third time they witnessed him throwing a bottle of beer, it was at a police van and he was also yelling out profanities. She said that he threw a second bottle at the police van but missed, and she heard the bottle crack on the road.

The other witness said she saw the man exiting the bar and making his way to the bus stop and was yelling profanities along with the Samoan war cry. She confirmed what the first witness said.

Following up on their investigation, the officers went to the main road in regards to the empty bottles that were mentioned by the two witnesses. Officers observed an empty bottle on the eastbound lane cracked collaborating the two witnesses’ statement about the incident. Officers took photographs of the broken beer bottles on the road.

At about 4:50 a.m, the defendant was booked and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility until the next available sitting of the District Court.

The defendant is identified as a 66 year-old citizen of Tonga.
