Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Don’t be too quick to rule them out of the race – Faga’alu’s ‘Fetu o le Afiafi’ will be in the race tomorrow, as they’re not giving up so easily.

Fautasi Five 2019 is proudly presented by Congresswoman Aumua Amata.

Even though the Fetu o le Afiafi's fautasi broke this past Tuesday, the spirit of competition did not die there for these youngsters. They came back and are now competing utilizing the DOC ‘Sinapioa’ longboat which they’ve been rowing in practice for the past two days.

Leading the Fetu o le Afiafi Fautasi Team is Captain Manutafea I. Fano, who told Samoa News that even though their fautasi broke, their spirit of competition still stands strong. The strong 48 rowers from the village of Faga’alu have been in training since the beginning of March leading up to this week.

A majority of the Fetu o le Afiafi fautasi crew consists of the youth from in the village, who are still in high school, and some of them are returning rowers from the past.
