Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has again requested, and Hawaiian Airlines has again given its endorsement, for the suspension of flights between Honolulu and Pago Pago until the end of June as the governor remains concerned with the high number of coronavirus cases in Hawaii and the U.S. mainland.

“We have received his letter, and will be responding that we will comply with the request,” said airline spokesperson Ann Botticelli via email from Honolulu yesterday morning, responding to a Samoa News request for comments.

The Governor’s Office confirmed yesterday that Lolo’s letter was sent out to the airline.

This is the third coronavirus related request by the governor to the airline’s president and chief executive officer Peter Ingram, who granted Lolo’s wishes, as American Samoa remains the only U.S. jurisdiction — state or territory — without a confirmed case.

Samoa News received word — via social media — from local residents currently stranded in Honolulu of being contacted by Hawaiian Air of flight suspensions being extended for another 30-days — until the end of June — and their reservations for next month are re-booked to July.
