18-year old arrested for PPD, assault and trespassing
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On January 27, 2024, a woman reported a man for sleeping at her house without her consent who then threatened her with a golf club for not feeding him.
Fa’atau Kome was arrested and charged with the following:
Count 1: Private Peace Disturbance — a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen (15) days, a fine of $300 but not less than $150, or both;
Count 2: Assault in Third Degree — a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen (15) days, a fine of $300 but not less than $150, or both; and,
Count 3: Trespass — a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six (6) months, a fine of $500, or both.
The defendant’s bail was set at $1,000.
According to the affidavit, on January 27, 2024 around 4pm, Faatau Kome was accused of causing a disturbance at Manino Utumapu’s residence in Iliili. The affidavit revealed that Kome went and slept in Utumapu’s house without her consent. When the victim (Utumapu) told him to leave he cussed at her and he grabbed a golf club and walked around the house while looking at her, making it seem like he was aiming to hit her with the golf club. The victim repeatedly asked Kome to leave, however he continued walking around the house with the golf club.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was observed in front of the bus stop. Police officers made a turn to approach the suspect but he stood up and ran onto the Golf Course greens. Police officers pursued and caught him hiding under the bushes. Kome was apprehended and transported to the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) for further investigation.
Upon arrival at the TPS, the suspect was Mirandized and agreed to make a statement.
According to the suspect, he had slept the whole day and that’s why Manino was mad at him. He then stood up and cussed at the victim and then he grabbed a golf club and walked around the house.
Police officers were also able to get a verbal statement from the victim and she stated that she came to their house and saw Kome sleeping. She then told her cousin to go have lunch with her when Kome told her that he wanted to eat too.
The victim explained that she told Kome to go eat at his house because this is not his family that he is demanding to get food for him. That is when Kome is alleged to have cussed at her and grabbed the golf club and walked around the house while staring her down. The victim admitted that she felt threatened with how Kome was acting and after he was told to leave several times.
The victim also revealed that the suspect is on probation and that is why he is not allowed to be in their house.
Kome was booked and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility (TFC) until his court appearance.
The suspect is identified as an 18 year-old, U.S National.
