Muliagatele Brian Lima did not have a bottle of beer when he left a bar in December, shortly before allegedly assaulting his ex-wife and a companion.One of three defence witnesses made it clear that Muliagatele did not leave the bar with any bottles of beer.“The usual policy with the nightclubs is that no one is allowed to take any bottles of beer outside of the bar,” said Maselino Paulino, a rugby player of Moamoa and Leauva’a.Prosecutor Leone Su’a-Mailo, of the Attorney General’s Office, questioned Mr. Paulino about whether he was sure Muliagatele did not have a bottle with him.Police had charged Muliagatele earlier this year on seven counts of assault, including being armed with a dangerous weapon, and throwing an object outside of the Y-Not Bar at Matautu last year.His ex-wife, Lemalu Sina Retzlaff, went public with the assault soon after it happened.Yesterday, Mrs. Su’a-Mailo told Mr. Paulino that a security guard gave evidence earlier in the trial, telling the Court that he left the bar before Muliagatele.“No, that is wrong,” replied Mr. Paulino.“We came together with Muliagatele and we stopped at the table next to the exit door and he continued to walk outside.”Mr. Paulino said he had gone to the bar with a friend, Tulele Masoe, before meeting Muliagatele.“I said goodbye to him and Tulele stopped to talk to his friends that were sitting at a table.”The prosecutor continued to question Mr. Paulino, asking if he wanted the Court to prefer his evidence over two security guards.“Yes,” said Mr. Paulino.A third witness failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest by Her Honour Justice Ida Malosi.The former Manu Samoa player and coach has pleaded not guilty to two charges of intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two alternative charges of actual bodily harm, throwing dangerous objects, possession of a dangerous weapon and threatening words.Mr. Paulino was one of the two men that Muliagatele met inside of the Y-Not bar on the 12 December, 2013.He works for the Central Bank of Samoa and has been coached by Muliagatele in the Samoa A team.In his evidence, Mr. Paulino said after work that day, his division had a few drinks and a B.B.Q.Around 10pm, he decided to leave to go to Club X with three other work colleagues but, when they arrived, decided to go to Y-Not instead.“There I saw Lemalu and I spoke to her for a little while,” recalled Mr. Paulino.“I met with Tulele Masoe there and we had some beers.\Not long after
