In partnership with the National University of Samoa, leaitula is proud to present the second season of where ‘we’ once belonged, which will run from April 2nd – 6th, at the National University of Samoa.where ‘we’ once belonged is the award winning novel by Samoa’s first woman novelist, Sia Figiel, of Matautu-Tai. Published in 1996, the book won literary awards and recognition world-wide, and has been translated into several European languages. The story is set in 1980s Samoa, in the fictitious village of Malaefou and revolves around young Alofa Filiga, and her family and friends, in an unforgettable coming-of-age story.Bringing the people of Malaefou to life, and to the Samoan stage, is veteran actress, writer and director Fiona Collins. Collins, of Vailele and Malie, is a graduate of Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School and teaches performing arts at the National University of Samoa. Collins has reassembled a crack, local cast who have been working hard this season and are guaranteed to inspire and entertain.Season Two promises to be as exciting as the first. With the help of NUS, the theatre space D101 comfortably seats up to 100 audience members. This season three new cast members are welcomed to the WWOB family, in an innovative retelling that will only build on the last.
