Warriors continue to steamroller over opposition in ASHSAA Girls Softball

The Leone Lions, who are the surprise team in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) girls softball season, have been right on the heels of the undefeated Tafuna Warriors going into this third week of play.

The only blemish on an almost perfect season for the Lions, is a loss to the Warriors. Before and after the loss to the Warriors, the Lions showed their strength in their batting and fielding, with their only ‘down’ game being the one against the Warriors.

Last year’s champions, the Fa’asao Marist Cougars, who had a rough start at the beginning of this season and then appeared to get back on track, suffered a big loss this past Saturday when they were defeated by the Lions in a game where the Cougars were leading up until the late innings. This is when the Lions made a rally to take the victory by a score of 16-13, keeping the Cougars behind the Lions in the standings.

In the second game this past Saturday, the Warriors kept the ball rolling as they were able to steamroll over the winless Faga’itua Vikings, shutting them out 27-0. The Vikings have struggled all season and it appears the struggle will continue. The only two winless teams, the Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats and Samoana Sharks will meet for the first time this season in tomorrow’s September 11th match up and one of them will walk away with their first win. The other game scheduled to be played tomorrow, is the Warriors going against the Cougars.

On Thursday September 13, the Lions will face the Wildcats, as the Vikings take on the Sharks. To finish out the third week this coming Saturday, the Cougars will be matched up against the Wildcats, while the Warriors take on the Sharks.

All games are played at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field, with the Tuesday and Thursday games having a scheduled starting time of 4:00 p.m. for both games, while the Saturday games have a scheduled starting time of 8:00 a.m. for the first game, with the second game immediately following.

The coordinator for the 2012-2013 Girls Softball season, Clayton ‘Boom’ Mahuka wishes to remind each team, that there must be a school administrator from each school present throughout each game that their school is playing in, including the playoffs and championship games.
