Visit set for Australian travel wholesalers and media reps

Australian travel wholesalers and journalists will be in the territory from Sept. 14 – 16 as part of a familiarization visit being organized by the American Samoa Visitor’s Bureau announced executive director David Vaeafe.

Visiting wholesalers David Callan (Wotif.com) and Mrs. Angela Stewart (Parker Travel Collection) will be accompanied by Ms. Dasha Toalepaialii from the Flight Centre Travel Group and will conduct site visits of hotels, take a tour with a local operator and meet industry members, said Vaeafe.

Prior to the trio’s visit, two Australian news media representatives, Cam Cope from ‘Get Lost’ magazine, catering to "flash packers" and travelers looking for points of difference in their destinations and Matt Young a freelance and features writer for DNA magazine and roving reporter for 2Day FM will be on island from Sept. 8-9.

The journalists will tour Tutuila and experience some of the attractions on island, said Vaeafe, and will also spend time before visiting American Samoa attending the Teuila Festival in Apia, Samoa.

The wholesaler and media visits are the second of three planned by the Visitor’s Bureau and follows on the successful visit last month by New Zealand travel wholesalers and media. The visits were made possible with a US Department of Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs technical assistant grant.

Meanwhile, Vaeafe says New Zealand travel company ‘Our Pacific’ released this week the first holiday travel packages directly from New Zealand to American Samoa. The deals offer 7 day packages which include return airfares from New Zealand on Virgin Samoa and Inter Island Airways, overnight accommodation in Samoa, accommodation in American Samoa, rental car hire, tour and transfers.
