Man missing off Auto village coast

At 5:30 p.m. Saturday DPS and emergency personnel were continuing a search for a man missing off the Auto village coast line.

Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Leseiau Laumoli told Samoa News on Saturday morning that two men went fishing on Friday off the Auto coast and one of the men, 35 years old, was swept out to sea by the currents.

The other younger man, made it back to shore and alerted authorities, said Laumoli.

A search was launched which included the police boat patrol off the Auto shore as well as divers, said Laumoli.

Weather conditions on Saturday morning were rainy and windy, with a small craft advisory issued by the National Weather Service, with waves of 7-9 ft with east winds 15-25mph in the forecast. 

By Saturday afternoon the skies were clearing but wind conditions remained high with the small craft advisory still in effect.

Identify of the man has not been released by police. Samoa News reporters are seeking updates today.
