Contestants in the 2009 Miss South Pacific Pageant participated in the workshop. Next week contestants are scheduled to participate in a whirlwind of activities. Pageant week opens this Saturday and the competition is set for Friday, Nov. 27.

American Samoa boasts five Miss South Pacific titles. The first Miss South Pacific was Juliet Spencer Sword (1988); Leilua Stevenson (1994); Rochelle Rowena Tuitele Reid (1996); Helen Afakasi Burke Lauvao (2001) and Lupe Ane Kenape Aumavae Tauanu’u (2003).

The reigning Miss South Pacific is Vanessa Limatoa Marsh (Miss Niue), who was crowned in American Samoa last year.

Good luck Miss American Samoa!!! Great theme for this year's pageant. Not only are we facing sea-level rising, droughts and famines, but new diseases are on the rise while research is slow on combatting these viruses and bacterias. Again, good luck and best wishes! Walk proud because you ARE Miss American Samoa!!!

Eh everyone should just stop with who is getting more publicity than the other. i mean honestly, who cares if samoa news doesnt really get a story for Ms AMerican Samoa and they get a good one on Ms Samoa. Its not about being bias or whatever! SO just get over it.

I agree with BIG EGO finally they have decided to cover MISS AMERICAN SAMOA!... Frisko Gurl its not about being negative or whatnot, its called being bias! Of course we all are praying for both of the young ladies yet our own newspaper has not even wrote a story on our own Miss American Samoa. All the MISS before Lorisa, SamoaNews is always on the go to publish this and that on them, and yet this year that wasnt happening. So, Frisko Gurl it really isnt negative thinking.... Lorisa & Hope: Gurls, just have fun k? Know that all of us here in the mainland are praying for the both of you! Good Luck! We love you!!!

I agree with "Such a big ego." We are "one" samoa, but this is a competition and we should be able to represent our own candidate as an individual and not a whole. We needed a better cover story for our local girl, thats like writing about how great tourism is in "SAMOA" and than write a two paragraph story on tourism in American Samoa. We might be "one" but lets get real here, this girl deserves a good story and for people to know her own credentials.

It doesnt matter who Samoanews covers...they are both young women of Samoa...we should be in prayers for both young women...stop being so NEGATIVE...is that all your mother ever taught you?? To: LORISA. I WISH YOU ALL THE HAPPINESS AND LUCK AND MAY THE LORD GUIDE AND KEEP YOU...BEST OF LUCK...AND ALWAYS...HAVE FUN!!!

Finally! Your reporter went all out on her article on Ms Samoa? Why can't she do the same for our Ms American Samoa? Are her credentials/experience/goals/ not good enough for you newspaper to cover?
