Why is Samoa News covering Miss Samoa and yet has little or no news about Miss American Samoa and the Miss South Pacific Pageant?

SAMOA NEWS ANSWERS:

Samoa News has tried to set up an interview with Miss American Samoa over the last month, especially about her upcoming participation in The Miss South Pacific Pageant being held in Fiji — to no avail. We contacted Fiji Times, which out of courtesy from one news agency to another, sent us photos of Miss American Samoa’s arrival, as well as the other contestants.

Miss Samoa, however granted us an interview, via telephone, from the Tafuna International Airport (See Samoa News issue, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009— page 8). Further, Samoa’s Tourism Authority (STA) notified media, including Samoa News, of the resignation of their Miss Samoa (see Community Briefs, Nov. 12, 2009 SN issue).

Miss Samoa, during her Samoa News interview, gave us the date of when she was leaving for the pageant. Through Fiji Times.com, Samoa News found that Miss American Samoa was to arrive in Fiji before Miss Samoa. Samoa News then contacted Fiji Times to see if we could get a photo of Miss American Samoa arriving in Fiji.

For our readers, we will be keeping in touch with Fiji Times to get news and photos of how Miss American Samoa is doing during the pageant events, as well as any photos of the event.

It should be noted Samoa News has received no contact, photos or press releases from the local organization that handles the Miss American Samoa schedule and events.

I have always been a fan of the Miss South Pacific Pageant....I just wonder if MASI can at least get some ideas from those pageant...American Samoa was one of the competitive contestants but not any more....MASI needs to put the former Miss South Pacific title holders from American Samoa like Leilua, Rochelle, Lupe, Helen, and Juliet to run MASI...they know what to expect and they can train our miss American Samoa to win the Crown of Miss South Pacific...I feel sorry for our contestant because they are so looked down by other Pacific contestants...they need new ideas...

American 7's is always a success every year they host their pageant, maybe they should train MASI officials on hosting the Ms American Samoa pageant....and yes, I think its time to "ave mea a real e pule ai real, ae malolo le au po'a"......Are any of the 5 previous Ms South Pacific from our territory on MASI?

It mentions on here, that Samoa News will be keeping in touch with Fiji Times to see how Miss American Samoa is doing???? Why isn't one of the reporters over there covering the story? Its part of being a journalist. You have to be there to experience the scene and the story. No wonder why you write one thing, when something else happened. Sheesh

It's no surprise that MASI can't compete against or come close to the successses of other Pacific Island pageant organizations. MASI officers, usually has-been former beauties, just can't seem to step aside and let the young, new brains take over. Poor organization every year, it's no wonder other island nations look down at American Samoa and our representation. MASI's a joke and should change its name to MASA (bad smell)!

MASI needs a face lift, from its management to all areas of operations. MASI continues to arm itself with old former Miss American Samoans and leaders with outdated ideas, and for this, the effectiveness and success of this organization in regional competitions will never be at the level where it needs to be. MASI needs to put new faces and brains in place to get things going for American Samoa. We still have the same folks in power for years now. Stop living in the past...you are no longer on top of your game.
