The DIGICEL phone company in Apia, Samoa worked hand in hand with the Dawn Raid Label in New Zealand to put together a tsunami relief concert to raise money for the tsunami victims in Samoa. Dawn Raid’s Label includes some of popular artists like Brother – D, Mareko, Devolo, Sweet and Irie, Scribe, and Savage.
According to American Samoa’s music artist Ekredible, Dawn Raid and their New Zealand artists group have been hosting relief concerts in New Zealand to raise funding for the tsunami victims in Samoa. He added “Dawn Raid came to Apia with a total of NZ$250,000.00 and that money was combined with the relief concert money that Ras Mas and I performed in, and it will be contributed to the tsunami victims of Samoa”.
The concert was held Friday, October 30th in Tuana’imato Apia, and more than 400 spectators supported the effort. Admission cost 10 tala per ticket.
Ekredible said that he was invited to perform for the tsunami relief concert, and “I wanted to take Ras Mas with me because we have collaborated very closely with each other lately, and we have a couple of songs together. Ras Mas agreed to help out for a good cause”.
“We had to hype up the crowd 684 style since we were the only artists from American Samoa. We had very good feedback from the crowd, especially since one of our songs is currently number one in Apia on the top ten music program”.
Said Ras Mas about the concert, as well as their trip. “this is the first time I have performed in front of a sold out concert crowd, and it was a great feeling doing it for the people. We sang one of our new tracks called “Whistle”, and we finished off the night with our number one song in Apia’s top ten program, “PrettyLiL Teine”. He added, “on our second day there in Apia, we went out to the villages that were affected by the tsunami to lend a helping hand”.
