A donation of used football equipment arrived in the territory on Monday for the Tafuna High School Warriors football program, and according to head coach Okland Salave’a, they just might end up sharing some of it, if the needs of the Warriors program are met.

Salave'a told Samoa News that all of the football equipment was donated by Head Coach Jason Bornn of Saugus High School in Northern California.

“The donation that was sent to us was equipment that was not needed, so Coach Bornn passed it along to us, for us to make good use of it and to possibly share it with other high school football teams,” said the THS Coach.

He stated that they have approximately 110 plus shoulder pads, over 30 helmets with face-masks and the necessities and about 200 practice jerseys. They also received a set of weightlifting dumb-bells and drinking coolers along with practice dummies. “After we do our inventory, we will decide which of the equipment we will keep and if there is enough leftover, we will decide what will go to other football programs here on island.”

The very excited Salave'a told Samoa News that this is a blessing for not only his football program, but for the betterment of the youth of American Samoa, who are vying for a spot to play next football season, and building a future in the sport. On that note, the very thankful Salave'a wanted to send out his acknowledgements to the people who made it all possible.

He said, “On behalf of our principal Tuiasosopo and our administration, we would like to thank Tony Feist, who is the president of Island Cargo Support that shipped the equipment down. I would also like to thank Peter and Donna Gurr who helped out a great deal to get the stuff shipped to us, and most of all, Jason Bornn of Saugus High School and CSL for delivering it to the school.”

Samoa News came across some of the Warriors Varsity football players who were present to unload the equipment that had just arrived early this week, saying they were very thankful for the equipment that will help them get better and perform better, and said that they will make sure it will be put to good use.
