 Tupulaga o Samoa mo a Taeao

 

HILO – The UH Hilo Samoan Club took the stage at the Merrie Monarch Festival’s annual Ho’ike on Wednesday night. Tupulaga o Samoa mo a Taeao thrilled the audience at the Edith Kanaka’ole Tennis Stadium.

 

The name of the club, Tupulaga o Samoa mo a Taeao, means “the youth of Samoa for tomorrow.” The club was founded 1982.

 

This is a very active group of students with members mainly from American Samoa and Independent Samoa. Students from other ethnic groups also join the club to learn about the Samoan culture.

 

The group participates in many college and community events, such as Global Peace Day, International Night, and the Tahiti Fete of Hilo.

 

The current officers are Fa‘ailoilo Ma Sun, president; Sigavaa Taumaivale, vice president; Margarita Morales, treasurer; Jaidon Rego, secretary; Gabrice Fuimaono, dance instructor.
