Authorities in Vanuatu are preparing for the worst, as Tropical Cyclone Pam, upgraded to a maximum-strength category 5 storm, works its way towards the country.The cyclone is moving south-south-west at 15 kilometres (10 MPH) an hour carrying winds of up to 220 kilometres (136 MPH) an hour at its centre. It looks set to be Vanuatu's most devastating cyclone since 1987.Vanuatu is about 1500 miles west of American Samoa.Vanuatu looks set to bear the worst of the cyclone. Schools, markets and government offices have shut and people are being urged to move away from rivers and the coast. The capital, Port Vila, which sits just above sea level, is battening down.National Disaster Management Office acting director Peter Korisa said officials were setting up evacuation centres and distributing supplies as the country locks down.\We are ordering people - especially from the informal settlements outside the city - to move into a safe area and good buildings where they can stay safe from the cyclone.\Our job at the moment is trying to arrange the evacuation centres.\Mr Korisa said the storm began to bear down on Torba province late last night
