USDOL overtime settlement coming for ASG workers

The U.S. Department of Labor is expected to soon release details of its settlement agreement with the American Samoa Government over unpaid overtime to ASG workers, following a federal probe some two years ago.

Last week Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga signed into law the administration’s $5 million fiscal year 2013 supplemental appropriation which includes $916,000 to resolved the unpaid overtime to ASG workers that was identified by the federal government.

Responding to Samoa News inquires into the investigation into overtime issue and where it stands, now that money has been approved for payment, USDOL Region Public Affairs Office says details are expected to be released soon.

“The American Samoa government is working cooperatively with the US Department of Labor on pending matters and details regarding the distribution of back wages,” USDOL regional spokesperson Jose A. Carnevalli said via email from San Francisco.
