Swimmers name new lead instructor

The American Samoa Aquatics Agency (ASAA) is pleased to announce that the new lead instructor for the Ocean Science/Ocean Swimming (OS/OS) class is Christina Pulu (2nd from right front row) who just returned recently from her US Army Basic training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT).

Pulu who is 2012 graduate of Samoana High School, is one of the original members of the ASAA and the Bruckner Chase Toa O le Tai (Ocean Heroes) Program that began in 2011. Pulu said she is excited to be getting back into the water and to be teaching these young students that she did the past two years.

Pulu, who is a Mortuary Affairs Specialist in the Army, will be at the Utulei Beach on Monday, Wednesday and Friday teaching the 25 Samoana High School OS/OS students the fine art of open water swimming that includes water safety, water rescue techniques and water survival skills.

The goal of the ASAA is to teach the proper techniques of swimming correctly, and to teach open water safety lifesaving skills, while putting a special emphasis on teaching the importance of keeping our oceans safe and clean.
