Super athletic Ulu Porter making a name in NW

One of the most athletic prospects in the south Puget Sound this year, and a kid that could see recruiting pick up with a good summer is Graham-Kapowsin LB/DL Ulu Porter, a 6'2", 230-pounder, who put up solid numbers as a junior this past fall. Northwest Elite Index caught up with the talented athlete recently, and got the scoop on how his offseason is progressing and what his itinerary looks like in the coming weeks and months...

"Things have been going good so far this year," Porter told NEI recently. "I've been working with my teammates, getting reps with our offensive linemen, doing one-on-ones, just trying to get some moves down and I'm lifting a lot too. I definitely want to get stronger and add some size before next season."

As the "elephant" in Graham-Kapowsin's modified 3-4 scheme, Porter racked up nearly 60 tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks and that productivity, to go along with his already impressive strength numbers (350-pound bench, 420-pound squat and 430-pound deadlift) and outstanding athleticism have grabbed the attention of a couple of schools.

"Eastern Washington and Boise State have both invited myself and Kahlil (Dawson) to come out to their camps so we're going to go out together," Porter said. "I'm also going to head up to the Northwest Elite Camp at Mercer Island on June 8th. Other than that, I'm sorta looking at what else I can go to with my schedule, just so I can see what else is out there for me to attend."

Porter is the son of Army Maj. Ulu Porter of Fagatogo and a 1990 graduate of Samoana High School. He is the grandson of Falefa and the late Robert Asoau Porter of Faleasao, Manu'a.
