Raiders safety Shalom Luani may get his childhood friend to join him on the squad in 2018, as coach Jon Gruden and general manager Reggie McKenzie are meeting with former Washington State linebacker Frankie Luvu Tuesday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Michael Gehlken.

Luvu entered the 2018 NFL draft after four seasons with Washington State, where he appeared in 25 games between 2017-18. During that span, Luvu amassed 94 tackles (58 solo), 19.0 tackles for loss, eight sacks. two interceptions, one pass defensed, two fumble recoveries and one touchdown.

At 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, Luvu could give Oakland a bit of a hybrid at the position, with the ability to rush the passer as a primary function while also being athletic enough to be functional in coverage.
