Peteli wins back-to-back titles for Boys 3-5 Division

Peteli Academy has won the Boys 3-5 championship title two years in a row to close out the 2016 FFAS Private Elementary Schools Soccer League on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Peteli beat Kanana Fou-2 6-2 while in other divisions, Iakina Adventist Academy stopped a Marist St. Francis repeat in the Boys 6-8 with a 3-1 scoreline; Marist St. Francis beat Peteli 3-0 in the Girls 6-8 final, and Samoa Baptist Academy edged Kanana Fou-1 2-1 in the Girls 3-5 division.

BOYS 3-5 FINAL

Since the division was first included in 2012, Peteli Academy has not won the division only once, in 2014. They won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, then repeated as champions again with this latest addition to their hardware.

Peteli scored first against Kanana Fou-2, but then saw the game equalized two minutes later. They finished No. 1 in the season with a division-high 36 goals scored, and that scoring prowess showed in this final as they were in front,3-1, by the break.

By game’s end, Peteli had pulled away comfortably to win 6-2. Kanaiali’i Satele was named Most Valuable Player of the division.

In the game for third place, Iakina won against SBA 3-1. In the final standings, it was Peteli, Kanana Fou-2, Iakina, SBA, St. Theresa-1, Kanana Fou-1, Pacific Horizons, St. Theresa-2, South Pacific Academy-1 and SPA-2.

BOYS 6-8 FINAL

Iakina steamrolled through all of the teams except one, Marist St. Francis, during the regular season.

On the last day of the season, St. Francis shocked Iakina 2-1. In the final, with Marist St. Francis trying to repeat as champions of the division, eventual MVP Mark Taga’i helped Iakina avenge their only regular season loss with a 4-1 win in the game that mattered the most, the final.

At the end of the first half it was 2-1, and two more goals in the second helped Iakina to clinch the title.

In the game for third place, Samoa Baptist Acadey beat Peteli 1-0.

In the final standings, its Iakina, Marist St. Francis, SBA, Peteli, Pacific Horizons, St. Theresa, SPA, Kanana Fou-1 and Kanana Fou-2.

GIRLS 6-8 FINAL

Olyanne Ta’ase helped Marist St. Francis win the Girls 6-8 championship game, 3-0, against Peteli Academy.

The first half did not yield any goals, but in the second, Marist St. Francis broke the scoreless tie by reeling off three unanswered goals.

In the game for third place, Kanana Fou-1 beat St. Theresa 2-1.

In the final standings, its Marist St. Francis, Peteli, Kanana Fou-1, St. Theresa, SPA, Kanana Fou-2, SBA, Iakina and St. Theresa-2.
