Leone High School's Eddie Siaumau enjoys visit to Arizona
Tucson, ARIZONA — The 2019 spring evaluation period is well underway and the Arizona Wildcats are hitting the recruiting trail hard.
However, one prospect the coaching staff has been recruiting well before the evaluation period started is Eddie Siaumau.
The three-star Leone High School (Pago Pago, American Samoa) standout visited Tucson earlier this month and really enjoyed the experience.
“I went to Arizona to visit my grandma,” Siaumau said. “I messaged coach Davy (Gnodle) that I’m in Arizona and he said they want to see me. I took the visit and I’d just like to say it was amazing.”
Siaumau had a great visit but it wasn’t the typical aspects of campus that stood out to him.
“I didn’t care how nice the facilities and everything were but what really got me were the coaches,” he explained.
“I sat down with Coach (Marcel) Yates and we just had a real talk. He was saying how he could be so nice to me right now, but when it’s game time, he’s going to be on my ass,” he laughed. “That’s the kind of coach I like. I told him I want to be in a place that I know they got me no matter what happens.”
The coaching staff called Siaumau the day after his visit to offer him.
Right now, Siaumau has three coaches on staff recruiting him: Marcel Yates, Davy Gnodle, and Iona Uiagalelei — and they all know where they want him on the field.
“They said I’m a hybrid safety and I’ll become a linebacker,” Siaumau explained.
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, it’s easy to believe he can.
Siaumau holds three offers for the time being — Virginia Union, Idaho State, and Arizona — but there are several other schools recruiting him that he thinks are close to offering: USC, Utah, Oregon, and Oregon State.
