Another easy Cup defense for Vaiala Tongan team
Vaiala Tongan cruised to a 4-0 win over Green Bay in the third straight successful defense of the Women’s FFAS National Cup at Pago Park Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017.
In other Match Day 7 results of the women’s 2017 FFAS National League, it was Royal Puma 1, Taputimu Youth 0; Pago Youth 2, Tafuna Jets 1 and Black Roses 2, PanSa 0.
There are two more rounds of games to go in the regular season with Royal Puma sitting two points clear of Vaiala Tongan (19-17), while Black Roses is two points behind No. 2 with 15 points, and Green Bay rounds out the top four teams with 13 points.
Taputimu Youth sits at No. 5 with nine points, followed by Pago Youth with eight, Ilaoa & To’omata at No. 7 with seven, and PanSa over the Tafuna Jets by goals differential for the No. 8 spot with both team sitting at six points apiece.
VAIALA TONGAN 4, GREEN BAY 0
Jessica Satele and Elcy Lui started off the scoring for Vaiala Tongan with two goals in the first half, before Oloataua Tofaeono scored a brace in the second to complete the game’s final tally.
Vaiala Tongan has a 5-2-0 record and will face off against Pago Youth on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017. Green Bay has a 4-1-2 record and will take on Black Roses this Saturday.
ROYAL PUMA 1, TAPUTIMU YOUTH 0
Alicia Lenheart drove home a PK to help Royal Puma edge Taputimu Youth 1-0 in the last 10 minutes of a very close game.
Royal Puma needed this win in order to maintain their top spot in the standings, and they managed to pull out a victory thanks to a handball penalty inside the box. A draw against Taputimu Youth would have had them in a tie for points at the top spot with Vaiala Tongan, and the latter would have been No. 1 in the standings due to a higher differential in goals.
Vaiala Tongan has 16 to Royal Puma’s 11, a tiebreaker going to the former’s benefit. Both teams played to a 1-1 draw on Match Day 1.
Royal Puma takes on Ilaoa & To’omata this week while Taputimu Youth plays against PanSa.
PAGO YOUTH 2, TAFUNA JETS 1
Pago Youth scored a goal in each half to eek out a 2-1 win over the Tafuna Jets last Saturday.
Melekuini Tialavea scored Pago Youth’s first goal, while Angielani Pola scored the second.
Scoring for the Tafuna Jets was Jasmine Maiava. The Jets are off this weekend while Pago Youth will challenge Vaiala Tongan for the cup.
BLACK ROSES 2, PANSA 0
Deiondre Ott scored two goals in helping the Black Roses beat PanSa 2-0 last Saturday. The win and Green Bay’s loss helped Black Roses move up a spot, from fourth place to third in the standings.
Black Roses will play against Green Bay while PanSa takes on Taputimu Youth.
