SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF AMERICAN SAMOA ON THE HUNT FOR ATHLETES

The Special Olympics of American Samoa, is now looking for Special Olympic athletes to compete in the upcoming games. Yesterday they were set up in front of Samoana High School, looking for these special athletes.

“We are currently doing a recruitment drive looking for some athletes that are willing to participate in the Special Olympics,” said Tafa Tupuola, Chair for the Special Olympic Executive Committee. “The first local event will take place on April 20th, with the next event being July 20th. The regional games, which are part of Asia, Pacific Region Special Olympics, will most likely have the Regional games in Asia next year.  Right now, it’s tentatively Singapore, which is our headquarters for the region.

“The World Games will be held in 2015 in Los Angeles. For the athletes, the minimum age is eight years old, to all the way up to “whatever” age. The four categories that we are targeting are, soccer, track and field, swimming and power lifting. Our contact number is 699-9155 ext. 429,” she said. Today, they will be set up at the Laufou Shopping center, looking for those who want to participate in these very special regional and world-wide events.
