The Samoa Rugby Union (SRU) has announced the appointment of Viliamu Punivalu as the new Manu Samoa 7s Head Coach. The appointment was confirmed at a special Board meeting of SRU on Friday in Samoa.At the meeting SRU Chairman Hon. Fatialofa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi congratulated Punivalu and wished him well in his new role.Punivalu was chosen from 18 applicants, 7 of whom were shortlisted for interviews.Punivalu has been coaching Vaiala for the past years and is currently head coach of the Samoa Under 20s which participated in the recent Junior World Cup in France, and which improved its ranking to 9th from 10th at last year’s Junior World Cup. Punivalu takes over from Tausa Faamaoni Lalomilo who was terminated ahead of the recent Sevens World Cup in Russia.
