Samoa police officer denies helping prisoner escape

The trial of a police officer who is currently facing charges in relation to helping a prisoner at Tafaigata escape, has been adjourned to 25 this month.The matter was heard in the District Court before Judge Mata Tuatagaloa.The adjournment was made with an order for filing of final submissions before the matter is mentioned again on March 4 and for counsel to answer any questions the court might have before it delivers its decision.The Police officer was suspended as a result of his alleged involvement in the incident. His defense counsel is Rosella Papali’i.He has continued to deny any involvement in the allegations. Prior to the decision Anemani Sinapoa Asiata, 37 gave evidence during the hearing into his not guilty plea in relation to the allegation.The father of five is suspended with pay from the Ministry of Police.The allegation stems from an incident that occurred on 18 June, 2001. He was however suspended on 8 July.The prisoner Asiata is alleged to have helped to escape from prison, is Va’ai Panapa.
