Samoa PM sees Aleipata rivaling Apia

Samoa’s prime minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says he envisions Aleipata becoming the next big city, rivalling the capital, Apia.He says Aleipata’s attraction is its world class beaches and off-shore islands that will become a boon for tourism investment. The prime minister says with the wharf at Aleipata completed, an airport is in the pipeline. He said being the closest point to American Samoa will set up Aleipata as the trading hub with the territory.Tuilaepa says American Samoa needs to build a similar wharf at Leone or Fagasa which will then be a direct run from Aleipata instead of going to Pago Pago Harbor which is an extra two hours. He says Leone could also be the next big hub for Pago Pago if American Samoa starts working on a wharf there. There were plans to build a wharf in Leone during the administration of Governor Aifili Paulo Lutali however it was shelved because of environmental concerns.
